Letter from 119 Congressmen Condemns Keith Self's Anti-Muslim Caucus
119 Congressmen have issued a letter condemning Keith Self's Caucus aimed at attacking Muslims and Sharia Law.
A total of 119 Congressman have joined in condemning Texas Congressman Keith Self’s creation of a Sharia-Free Caucus in Washington.
Self, along with fellow Congressman Chip Roy, formed the caucus last December. By mid-January its membership had grown to 26 members from 17 states.
Now Senator Chris Van Hollen, Representatives James Clyburn, Andre Carson, Rosa DeLauro, Hank Johnson, Ro Khanna, and Jerry Nadler joined and are among the 119 Democrats in sending a letter to Congressional leadership. The letter condemns the anti-Muslim Sharia-Free America Caucus, which they said is designed to promote legislation that discriminates against the faith tradition of American Muslims.
At the time of the original formation, Congressman Self referred to what he called a noble cause.
“Preserving the American way of life is essential to protecting civil liberties and upholding the United States Constitution. Sharia stands in direct opposition to our country and is totally anathema to the concept of individual freedom and our founding principles,” he said.
Context Corner is reaching out to Congressman Self today, to see if he has a comment in light of the letter condemning his actions.
