Inside the Sachse Muslim Society, friends, neighbors and strangers gathered for National Night Out with a simple goal: getting to know one another.
Rasheed Raji of the Sachse Muslim Society said the event gave residents an opportunity to ask questions about the city, police department and neighborhood concerns while spending time together in a relaxed setting.
Rev. Deneice Mason of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church spoke about the importance of loving neighbors across faiths and getting to know people as individuals rather than defining them by their religion.
Sachse Police Sgt. Brett Merryman said National Night Out plays an important role in building relationships between residents and law enforcement. He also discussed recent threats to mosques across North Texas and encouraged cooperation between the community and police.
But on this night, the focus was conversation, community and understanding.
