A backlog of Texas voter registration applications has raised questions about the state’s election administration system just weeks before the November election.
A Department of Public Safety system issue affected voter registration applications submitted through the agency’s online driver’s license portal. State officials said incomplete records could not be processed and were later resent to the Secretary of State’s office after the issue was identified and resolved.
The backlog, which dates back to October 2025, has placed additional demands on county election offices as they work to process the records ahead of the October 5 voter registration deadline.
